Microsoft Windows 8.1 update referred with the Code name Blue is now available for the developer devices. After two General development releases (GDRs) for Windows Phone 8 the major OS update is 8.1 which is going to available for all the devices running on Windows 8. The official release date for this update is not yet known but with the Preview for Developer Program all the registered Microsoft developers can update to 8.1 using the Preview for Developer App. These pre-release OS updates are from Microsoft and even you can update to Windows 8.1 from your Windows Phone 8 in this article i'll help you to do that.

Turning your windows phone into a developers device
As I mentioned earlier the updates are available only for Developer Devices so first you have to make your device a Developer device here's how
- To become a developer register in the Microsoft App Studio for free by using the same email id as you have used in your Windows phone. (You can also register by paying some bucks and publish your apps in the Windows Store if you want to do so register here )
- You can also download Windows Phone App Studio on your device and register with the email id you used to login to your device.
- Both the above methods will register you as a developer.

Getting Windows 8.1 updates
To get the windows 8.1 updates you have to download the Preview for Developers App from the store or directly scan the following QR code using your windows phone device.
- Now open the app and Read everything you see before proceeding to the next screen ( understand that the warranty will no longer be applicable to your device once you sign up for the program untill the update is officially released).
- Read the terms and conditions thoroughly before accepting (it's not very big only three terms and conditions so please spend few minutes reading it).
- After accepting you are asked to login to your Microsoft account use the account which you used to sign up for app studio.
- Now after logging in Enable the Preview for Developers and now you will start receiving updates from Microsoft frequently. Once you update you cannot revert the prior OS version but you can stop furthur updates by simply disabling from preview for developers.
- To update go to Settings >> Phone update >> check for updates once you update you can enjoy some cool features of Windows 8.1 like Action centre , Cortana , swipe texting , Start background and many more....
Note: Since this is not the official release there may be few bugs and errors which you may encounter during updation so update at your own risk and based on various reviews very few devices are encountering bugs which are expected to be cleared in the next update.
